Are ductless mini-splits right for your East Texas home? An honest look.
Mini-splits have exploded in popularity. They’re a great fit for some applications and a poor fit for others.
Pros: No ductwork required (huge advantage in older homes or additions). Zoned control — only heat/cool the rooms you use. Very high efficiency (often 20+ SEER2). Quiet.
Cons: Indoor heads are visible on walls. Cost per ton is higher than central systems. Multi-zone systems can have complex piping.
Best use cases: Garage conversions, sunroom additions, primary bedrooms, older homes with no existing ductwork.
Not ideal for: Whole-house replacement when you already have good ductwork — a central system is usually cheaper.
