Understanding the new SEER2 efficiency rating and how it affects your AC purchase.
SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) measures how efficiently your AC converts electricity into cooling. Higher = more efficient.
In 2023 the industry switched to SEER2, a more realistic test method. Roughly: SEER 14 = SEER2 13.4. So a SEER2 14 unit today is similar to a SEER 14.7 unit before.
Federal minimums in the South: SEER2 14.3. Most homeowners benefit from going SEER2 15–18 for a reasonable payback.
Going above SEER2 20 is great efficiency but the payback period can be 10+ years. We’ll model your savings before you decide.
